Bank Holiday Weekend 2017: 10 FREE Events In UK

Bank holiday weekend is just around the corner, and luckily there is an abundance of free activities all across the UK for Britons to enjoy

Bank holiday weekend is looking to bring good weather, even if a slight risk of showers throughout. However, those looking to spend the day out will be spoilt for choice when it comes to free events across the UK. Britons should head to any ten of the following cities to take advantage of the free events on offer this weekend.

Tourists heading to Cardiff over the weekend will be swept up in Pride Cymru. Starting on Saturday, the parade will travel through the city centre to celebrate the LGBT community with floats and colourful events.

The Northern city is offering a great day out for the family at the Chill Factore, the indoor ski slope in the Trafford Centre. On Friday, families can experience a virtual skiing experience, UV ping pong and even a giant Scalextric track within the venue, as well as street food and DJ sets.

Saturday also brings a free pop-up cinema showing Eddie the Eagle, starting at 7pm.

One of the best street food events in the UK can be experienced this Friday in Leicester. Canteen, based at LCB Depot on Rutland Street is just two minutes from the train station and has food stalls offering Greek souvlaki, Brazilian grills and Caribbean seafood this Saturday.

A musical evening to be experienced this Saturday is at Crewel Crags in Nottingham, where a live choir can be experienced with the ice age music themed from sounds of creatures that lived over 10,000 years ago. The live performance within the rocks and caves will offer an amazing 3D experience.

Brecon Beacons

Britons heading to the Brecon Beacons this weekend can enjoy the Summer Fayre that will take place over the weekend.

Featuring brands such as Go Outdoors and Lonely Planet, as well as live music, food and craft stalls, it will offer a great day out for all the family.

For more live music across the UK, head to Leopold Square this weekend for some of the best jazz and swing.

Starting at 2pm, Saturday offers a live band with blues, latin and swing music whilst Sunday will bring jazz tunes by local singer Emily Claire West.

City-dwellers in the capital can join the Kopperberg party that will be touring the parks throughout the day.

Anyone can try a complimentary Kopperburg fruit cider of lager whilst listening to DJ sets from Pixie Geldof and DJ Yoda on the cider truck.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of legendary 80’s films Dirty Dancing and The Lost Boys, Dreamland Margate is offering free screenings of the iconic movies on Saturday and Sunday for free. Anyone wanting a good seat should get there before 8:45pm when it starts.

Families who go past Stanley Park this Saturday can experience live music from local bands such as Eleanor Nelly and Limerence as well as workshops, crafts and even a teddy bears picnic.

Anyone wanting to stay in their homes this bank holiday weekend and attempt a BBQ, can instead get a free BBQ kit from Hungry House.

Britons who fail at the BBQ attempt can tweet a picture to Hungry House over the bank holiday weekend and could be sent a free package with the best barbecue dishes instead.

Anyone who isn’t in London, Birmingham or Nottingham can still take part and could receive free vouchers instead.

Holiday fun

If you were savvy and booked a last minute holiday with the family before the kids go back to school, there’s two weeks of fun to be had yet. Thomson reveal this week it has already taught more than 2,300 children to swim this summer.

TUI Family Life launched swim schools at 13 of its resorts this summer and the TUI Family Life team are so sure that children can learn to swim in two weeks they are giving a ‘two week guarantee’.

The company believe children attending 10 sessions over two weeks will go home able to swim.

The perfect starting place for any inspired children wanting to follow in the footsteps of record breaking Adam Peaty.
