Liverpool face Aston Villa in Wembley FA Cup semi-final after narrow replay win
Liverpool set up an FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa after labouring past Blackburn in Tuesday’s FA Cup last eight replay at Ewood Park.
The travelling fans had to wait until the 70th minute, when Philippe Coutinho’s neat one-two with Jordan Henderson gave the Brazilian a sight of Rovers’ goal and he fired across Simon Eastwood and into the far corner to give the Reds a narrow 1-0 victory after 180 minutes.
It will be Liverpool’s first appearance at Wembley since Kenny Dalglish led the Reds to the FA Cup final, but lost out to Chelsea in a pulsating final which ended 2-1 in 2012.
Liverpool will meet Villa in domestic cup competition for the first time since they edged a dramatic seven-goal thriller at Villa Park back in 2002.
The full semi-final draw:
Reading v Arsenal – Saturday April 18, 17:20
Aston Villa v Liverpool – Sunday April 19, 15:00
