The highlight of the jump season is just around the corner, with just 60 days to go until the finest jockeys their horses battle it out for some of the best prizes in racing.
Prize money at this year’s festival will exceed £4 million for the first time, with the Gold Cup boosted £25,000 to a record £575,000 – the second biggest prize behind the Grand National.
The Cheltenham festival is an event where many of the best British and Irish-trained horses race to an extent which is relatively rare during the rest of the season.
It takes place annually in March at Cheltenham Racecourse in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, with more than 200,000 people expected to pass through the gates over the four days.
Tickets are currently available for all four days, although the price of festival tickets will increase after midnight January 29, so the sooner you get a ticket the better it is for your wallet.
In total, 13 of the 27 races from last year’s Cheltenham Festival have had their pots swelled, with £4,115,000 on offer over its duration.
The Cheltenham Gold Cup is the main event and takes place on the final day of the festival, with novice Coneygree winning the race in 2015 – the first to do so in over 40 years.
Other races include the Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and the World Hurdle.
This year’s event will run from Tuesday, March 15, until Friday, March 18.
Tickets for the first three days – which include Champion Day, Ladies Day and St Patrick’s Day – are available from £30, while tickets for the Gold Cup Day start at £45.
